Schreiner University Writing Center Opens. The Schreiner Writing Center has opened its doors to students and faculty, providing a helping hand and a comfortable atmosphere for writers. Run by Alpha Gamma Xi sponsor Elizabeth MacCrossan, the Writing Center is a free of charge service for student writers--regardless of major! Peer tutors are available on a walk-in or appointment basis for help with ideas and suggestions, and professors will be stopping in to lend a hand while they work on their own writing projects. The facility, located in the old residence at the side of A.C. Schreiner, has been renovated with writers in mind--there are comfortable chairs and couches, drafting tables, new computers and a handful of quiet rooms for students with a minimum of distractions. Sigma Tau Delta will be teaming up with the Writing Center throughout the year to provide helpful workshops and conferences for Schreiner Students and community members. Our first event will be announced soon! The Writing Center is open from 2-10pm Monday through Thursday, and can be opened at other times by appointment. To schedule time with a peer tutor, call 792-7323.
ΣΤΔ Sweeps Library Research Awards. Alpha Gamma Xi members swept the Logan Library research awards this semester, with three members dominating the winning slots! Diane Delery, Emily Seal and Kay Bruce took first through third place, respectively. Diane's paper "Beloved through a Marxist Lens: Increasing the Value of Self" earned her the $100 first place award, as Emily's "A War of Words: The Irish Poetic Rebellion of 1916" brought her home $75, and Kay's "Rudyard Kipling's Children's Literature: Social Commentary in the Last Days of Empire" sent her home with $50. With these strong works of literary criticism, they managed to give the research competition yet again to the English Department. Chapter members are making a tradition of winning the awards, as Emily Seal and Kay Bruce both placed in last semester's competition (first and third). Their winning papers are available for viewing on this website.
Strong Showing for Alpha Gamma Xi in National Conferences. More information coming soon.
