Campus
Activity
Welcome to a new month of our daily
res-life newsletter. It has been very
exciting and intriguing watching everyone
around campus being involved in so much. The
recycling program is going so great that
just about every week the recycling trailer
has to be taken away so that a new one is
put in its place. How are we doing that one
might ask? The answer is simple; it all
starts off in the residence halls and the
buildings around campus.
|
The residence halls have been outstanding gathering
the recycled supplies and taking them to the trailer
to get full, and who knows ... we might need one or
two more trailers soon stationed around campus. This
just goes to show how marvelous Schreiner University
is ... being green and supporting our environment.
Many thanks to the Schreiner staff, faculty, and
students.
In another case of Schreiner involvement, the
Student Activities team has been really awesome
about having programs and events for all of campus,
and they will have some cool events coming in
November. Whenever you have doubt on what you’re
going to do when you stay here for the weekend, just
pay a little visit to the Student Activities center
located by The Lion’s Den ... and their staff will
surely help you. |

What’s Happening on Campus
Protecting Yourself from the Flu |
|
 |
|
You’re probably getting tired of hearing the word
“flu” by now. If Health and Wellness has anything to
do with it, you’ll hear it a lot more throughout the
year. As we all know, the flu bug has hit Schreiner
big time this semester, and flu season is not even
in full swing yet. By now we should all know what
steps are necessary to protect ourselves from the
flu: handwashing, coughing into your elbow, using
anti-bacterial gel, etc. However, most students are
still not taking the most basic precautions against
the flu. We’re certainly not encouraging you to lock
yourself in your room for the rest of the year, but
it’s wise to heed some common sense tips in
preventing the spread of flu. For example, simple
habits like sharing drinks, food, or kissing can
easily spread the bug from one person to another.
And if you’ve already had the flu, you know all too
well how unpleasant it is. Body aches, fever, cough,
and other symptoms of the flu can easily knock you
out of class for 7-10 days, and in some cases even
more. That’s a ton of work to make up, and it can
all be prevented by being cautious and following
some simple steps. Another step to preventing the
flu is the flu shot itself. Don’t be swayed by
horror stories you hear regarding the shot and its
side effects. The truth is, the flu shot is
extremely effective in defending against the flu,
and can save you a lot of trouble. If you have any
questions regarding the flu shot, or if you’re
feeling symptoms that you think may be flu related,
please contact the Health and Wellness office at
(830) 792-7279. |

Hello, fellow Mountaineers!
Now that Fall Break is over and November is
here, aren't you just about ready for
Thanksgiving break? You certainly deserve
some good time off, relaxation and good
food! Before you take off for turkey,
pumpkin pie, and lots of football and
shopping, there are a few things you need to
know ...
|
|
|
Delaney, Faulkner, and L.A. will close for the
break at 9:00pm on Tuesday, November 24th. There is
a Thanksgiving Closedown flyer on your door with
reminders of what you need to do before you leave
for the break. Some examples are closing and locking
your windows, taking your keys, valuables and
anything you will need for the break period,
emptying the trash. Please do these things before
you leave to reduce the risk of fire, theft, and
vandalism while you are away! You will not be
allowed back in the buildings during the break
period. The doors to the residence halls will be
locked Tuesday night November 24, 2009. You will not
be able to get back into the buildings until Sunday
November 29, 2009 at noon. If you live in Pecan
Grove, The Oaks, Flato, or Trull, you may stay in
your apartment or room over the break. If you intend
to stay for part or the entire break, you’ll need to
fill out a Thanksgiving Break Housing Form and
return it to The Residence Life Office located in
the CCAC second floor. Please do this by Monday,
November 23, 2009 at 5pm. A list of students who are
approved to stay for the break will be given to
Security. If your name is not on the list you will
be asked to leave, so make sure your name gets on
the list. If you need to stay over break and you are
not a resident of Pecan Grove, The Oaks, Flato, or
Trull, you can stay with a Pecan Grove, Oaks, Flato,
or Trull resident who is of the same sex as you.
You’ll need to fill out a Thanksgiving Break Housing
Form and return it to the Residence Life Office
located in the CCAC second floor. Please do this by
Monday, November 23, 2009 at 5pm. Again, a list of
students who are approved to stay for the break will
be given to Security. If your name is not on the
list you will be asked to leave, so make sure your
name gets on the list.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel
free to stop by the Residence Life office upstairs
in the Cailloux Center or call Jason Smith at
830-792-7280 or e-mail me at

Keep your eyes

Did You Know?
Schreiner
sports and Athletic Hall of Fame...
One of its
inductees is Raymond Berry, who played
football for Schreiner in 1950-1951. Mr.
Berry went on to a fabulous career in the
NFL as a wide receiver and even coached the
New England Patriots to a Super Bowl
appearance in 1985! He was inducted into the
NFL Hall of Fame in 1972. Way to represent
Schreiner, Mr. Berry! |
