Academic Adjustments & Auxiliary Aids for Students with
Disabilities
The mission statement of Schreiner University affirms the
University's long-standing commitment to serve a diverse
community. Included in this commitment are ongoing efforts to
make the learning resources of the university accessible to
students with disabilities. In accordance with Section 504 of
the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Schreiner University provides
academic adjustments/auxiliary aides for students with
physical/medical, learning, and psychological disabilities.
Students desiring academic adjustments/auxiliary aides should
contact the Director of Learning Support Services/Section 504
Coordinator, Jude Gallik.
Students requesting academic adjustments/auxiliary aids will be
required to submit their requests in writing and to provide
current, written documentation of the disability from a
qualified professional. Only those requests which are supported
by documentation and which do not compromise academic
requirements essential to the program of instruction will be
approved.

Career Services
The Career Services Office assists students with
self-assessment, career exploration, and job and graduate school
searches through individual counseling and a series of
workshops. Services include interest testing, a computerized
career exploration program, training in resume development,
letter-writing, interview skills, and full-time, part-time and
summer employment referrals, and assistance in locating
internships. Services are available to all current
students and graduates of Schreiner University.
Students are welcome to browse in the career resource center,
which houses information on college majors and careers,
employers and graduate schools. This information includes
majors, job descriptions and requirements, labor market
information, and descriptions of graduate and professional
programs.
Computer workstations are available for student use in
creating resumes, researching careers and conducting Internet
job searches.

Chapel
The University Chapel is located in the Griffin Welcome Center
and is available for individual and group worship. There is also
a chapel service each week led by various student religious
groups.

Counseling and Guidance
Academic and personal counseling are provided as a service of
the University. The Director of Counseling Services is a
professionally certified counselor and is available during
regular work hours, as well as during after hours emergencies. A
campus minister is also available on campus for counseling and
support.
Faculty advisors, under he supervision of the Vice President for
Academic Affairs, assist students in determining majors and
planning their educational programs and goals. The Director of
Career Services also serves as a resource for career planning.

Learning Center
The purpose of the Fasken Learning Center is to provide academic
support services to all Schreiner students by enhancing the
academic skills of successful students and supplying
developmental assistance where needed. The center serves as a
resource for faculty and staff, where both group and individual
programs are available to help students increase their
efficiency in most areas of study.
The Fasken Learning Center offers free peer tutoring, as well as
the instructional lab, which contains computers and audio-visual
aids where students have access to word processing programs,
spreadsheets, databases, and computer assisted instruction for
many subject areas.

Health and Wellness Services
A registered nurse is available in the Health and Wellness
Center to treat minor injuries and illnesses and to respond to
medical emergencies. Individuals are referred to the appropriate
sources when more definitive care is necessary. Campus Security
staff are trained in First Aid and CPR and are available when
the Health and Wellness Center is closed. Health guidance,
education, literature and programs are presented throughout the
year. The Center also has information on health insurance that
may be obtained from a private provider.

Orientation
The Schreiner orientation program is designed to assist in a
successful transition for all newly admitted students.
Mountaineer Days is the summer orientation portion of the
program and provides the opportunity for students to register
for classes and housing, and to begin to learn about the campus
community. In the early fall, new students participate in
Welcome Week activities which include interaction in peer groups with upper class mentors and
faculty advisors, introduction to the Schreiner campus culture
and a variety of social activities.

Student Activities
The office of Student Activities and Leadership Development
offers programs and opportunities enabling students to develop
their skills as leaders.
Involvement in extracurricular activities on campus, whether
they are social, cultural, volunteer or intellectual, can
provide opportunities to:
· stimulate and complement learning
· educate students in social responsibility
· develop appreciation of diversity and expose students to
various cultures, ideas, issues, arts and lifestyles
· assist in the development of community through creative
interaction by encouraging all members to learn from each other
The office of Student Activities and Leadership Development
coordinates the registration of more than 30 student
organizations that represent a variety of interests. Some
examples include: the Student Activities Board, representing
entertainment, social recreational and cultural programs for the
campus community; Greek organizations, offering social and
leadership opportunities for their members; Student Government,
offering opportunities for participation in campus life; Schreiner
Student Service Council, offering volunteer and
community service opportunities; and leadership development
programs, providing leadership training at every level.

Campus Recreation
The Campus Recreation office provides students, staff, and faculty with
opportunities to enhance the college experience through
participation in recreational sporting events, outdoor adventure
and overall healthy living activities. They offer intramural
flag football, dodgeball, softball, soccer, basketball and much
more! They also plan week-end adventure trips like rock
climbing, horseback riding, kayaking and the annual Christmas

Student Housing
On-campus residence halls and apartments provide accommodations
for almost 500 students. Facilities are air-conditioned and have
telephone and cable television service in the individual rooms.
All residences are equipped with wireless internet access.
Furnishings include a desk, single bed, dresser, chair and
closet facilities. The apartments also contain living room
furnishings and a full kitchen. Most mattresses are twin
Extra-long.
The residence halls close during the scheduled breaks at
Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break. Housing for students
during these vacation periods is granted by the approval of the
Director of Residence Life only for exceptional cases.

Campus Security
Schreiner University Security and Safety Department believes in
proactive law enforcement, which emphasizes the prevention of
crime through community education and awareness. A successful
crime prevention program depends on the active participation of
all community members at all times.
Active crime prevention participation reduces the likelihood of
victimization and increases criminal apprehension. The
University Security Officers make presentations on topics such
as sexual assault, personal safety, and alcohol awareness.
