Q: What is the University's class attendance policy?
A: Each instructor is responsible for establishing attendance
standards in keeping with the nature of the course and will
provide the student at the first class meeting a written copy of
the policy. Developing a positive attendance policy helps to
insure the likelihood of academic progress.
Q: Where should a student go for advice on academic
questions?
A: Each student is assigned an academic adviser through the
Registrar's Office. The student should see their academic
advisor with any academic questions.
Q: Where and when can a student purchase textbooks and
supplies?
A: A student can buy new and used textbooks and supplies at the
Schreiner University Bookstore. The Bookstore should have all of
the books in the week before classes begin.

Q: Are parking permits required?
A: Yes. students will receive a parking permit at no charge to
them. Regardless of where you park on campus you must display a
parking permit on the bumper or back window of the driver's
side. Students are given information on parking and permits from
the Security and Safety Office.

Q:
If a student has been awarded work-study, when will he or she
actually be assigned a job?
A:
Students must interview and be hired for work-study jobs.
Contact the Student Employment Office for specific information
on work-study openings.

Q: Where is the Student Health and Wellness and when is it
open?
A: The Health and Wellness Center, is located on the first level
of the Cailloux Center, is open 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday. If there is an emergency when the Health and
Wellness Center is not open, contact the Security Officer on
duty.

Q: Is there a charge to use the Health and Wellness Services?
A: The University nurse provides basic first aid and assessment
of minor illnesses and injury. There is no charge for these
services.
Q: What are the immunization and Insurance requirements?
A: All incoming students are encouraged to have current
immunizations for Polio, MMR, meningitis and TD. All
international students are required to have a TB skin test or
chest X-ray prior to registration. This information should be
submitted to the Health and Wellness Center prior to
registration. Health insurance is required for all resident and
international students.
Q: How can I contact my son
or daughter in an emergency?
In emergency cases, the Schreiner University Security and
Safety Department is the contact point for students' family
members. In the event of an emergency, family members may call
(830) 739-1111 and the Security Officer on duty will deliver a
message to the student.
Q: Does my son or daughter
need a personal computer?
Owning a personal computer is not required at Schreiner. The
University's computer lab houses many computers that students
may use for coursework. Other areas that students may uses
computers are the library, Student Affairs, and Fasken Learning
Center.

Q: What is the recommended
course load for freshmen?
We recommend that freshmen try 16-17 credits at the
beginning, see how the schedule works and then if by several
weeks into the term, they find it's too much, they can drop a
class without any penalty to their GPA. This dropping of classes
is possible until one week after mid-term.
Q: What tutorial assistance
is available?
The Peer Tutor Lab in the
Fasken Teaching and Learning Center is
open Monday - Thursday, operated by a staff of 12-15 trained
peer tutors who offer approximately 32 hours per week of free
individual help for 60 courses per semester. This is an
internationally certified program affiliated with the College
Reading & Learning Association.

Q: When do students get
their grades?
Students receive their grades at their permanent home
address as soon as possible after the end of the term, usually
about one week after the final grades are reported to the
registrar's office. They will receive their grades unless
financial obligations are not met and there are outstanding
transcripts from other colleges or high schools.
Q:
What does a student need to do if he or she needs a copy of
their transcripts?
Current students may use the form available in the registrar's
office to request a transcript. There is a $5.00 charge
for each copy of a transcript to be sent.
