Q: What are the immunization requirements?
A:
All students must have an immunization record on file in the Health Center. All foreign students are required to have a TB test completed within the last year with documentation of results. We request your adherence to our recommendations, supported by the Texas Department of Health, that students present proof of immunization for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Polio (not recommended for persons over 18), and Tetanus/Diphtheria. We also recommend the Meningococcal and Hepatitis B Vaccine. **In your admission packet is information on Bacterial Meningitis. It is required that you sign the area on the health form indicating that you received the information.
Q: How do I contact my son or daughter in an emergency?
A:
In emergency cases, the Schreiner University Security and Safety Department is the contact point for students' family members. In the event of an emergency, family members may call (830) 739-1111 and the Security Officer on duty will deliver a message to the student.

Q: Does my son or daughter need a personal computer?
A:
Owning a personal computer is not required at Schreiner. The University's computer lab houses 34 computers that students may use for coursework. Other areas that students may uses computers are the library, Student Affairs, and Fasken Learning Center.
Q: What is the recommended course load for freshmen?
A:
We recommend that freshmen try 16-17 credits at the beginning, see how the schedule works and then if by several weeks into the term, they find it's too much, they can drop a class without any penalty to their GPA. This dropping of classes is possible until one week after mid-term.
Q: What tutorial assistance is available?
A:
The Peer Tutor Lab in the
Fasken Teaching and Learning Center is open Monday - Thursday from 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., operated by a staff of 12-15 trained peer tutors who offer approximately 32 hours per week of free individual help for 60 courses per semester. This is an internationally certified program affiliated with the College Reading & Learning Association.
Q: When do students get their grades?
A:
Students receive their grades at their permanent home address as soon as possible after the end of the term, usually about one week after the final grades are reported to the registrar's office. They will receive their grades unless financial obligations are not met and there are outstanding transcripts from other colleges or high schools.
Q: How much will my son/daughter need to study each day?
A:
The general rule-of-thumb is: 3 hours of study for each hour of class. Study time for individual students depends on their course load and their unique needs and abilities.
Q: How does my student use Student Health Services?
A:

Q: Does my son/daughter need to make an immediate decision on a major?
A:
Many students enter the university undecided on a major. is prepared to work with students and offer personal advisement along with many interest and career inventories to assist the student in making a decision.
Q: Where do parents park when visiting the campus?
A:
Ample parking is available on Schreiner Campus. Parents may use designated visitor parking spaces. There is no entry station on campus, so you can come and go as you please without special access permits.
