| How do I go about joining the
editorial staff?
We are always accepting applications for editorial
staff. If you are interested, click
here for the
application. Positions are available to undergraduate
students regardless of school affiliation, but the
managing editor position is only available to Schreiner
students.
I am an undergraduate student, but I am not in the
United States. Can I submit work?
Most definitely. We encourage international
undergraduate submissions, although we do require that
all work be submitted in English.
I graduated last year, but I have a paper I'd
like to submit. May I do so?
No. Publication is open to currently registered
undergraduate college students. To submit you may be
enrolled either full or part time.
What sort of submissions are you looking for?
Submissions categories can be found
here.
Because Illuminations is a scholarly
journal, work of a scholarly persuasion is preferred,
although we will consider other topics if the paper is
well written. We welcome research from any discipline as
well as critical articles, and reviews covering film,
theater, art, and music. All scholarly work should be
well researched and supported by at least three outside
sources.
Creative work can include dramatic pieces, poetry,
and short fiction. In the category of creative
non-fiction, we prefer scholarly topics to personal
ones. Illuminations is not a platform for
commentary on personal issues, so work focusing on those
topics is not appropriate for publication. If you have
any questions regarding your work, please don't hesitate
to inquire via
e-mail.
I submitted something for the last issue, and it
was rejected. Will you reconsider my submission for
subsequent issues?
We are happy to reconsider previously rejected work
provided it has been revised and meets our
submissions
guidelines. If you would like your revised work
reconsidered, you must resubmit the work.
How many pieces may I submit?
We would prefer to limit submissions to no more than
five pieces per category per issue. However, you may
submit to as many issues as you like provided you are an
undergraduate at time of submission.
What are the length requirements for submissions?
Generally, we prefer academic papers no longer than
25 double-spaced pages; short fiction may be no longer
than 50 double-spaced pages.
How do I submit work?
That is covered in the call for papers, and you can
also find the guidelines
here. If
you have specific questions or concerns, please address
them to
illuminations@schreiner.edu
What is MLA format?
MLA format is required for all academic papers and
reviews; all non-poetry submissions must be double
spaced. MLA format does not apply to poetry submissions.
For specific information regarding MLA format, click
here or ask your
nearest English professor.
How will I know if my work has been
accepted/rejected?
You will receive an e-mail notification. Please
insure that all contact information on your cover letter
is valid and current.
