Accident and Sickness Insurance is mandatory for all residential
and international students.*
Effective January 1, 2006, all residential and
international students enrolled at Schreiner
University are automatically enrolled in the
student accident and health insurance offered by
the University unless proof of comparable
coverage has been provided during the on-line
web waiver process. Providing proof of insurance
to Athletics does not negate the requirement of
completing the on-line web waiver process.
For Schreiner students
who do not have insurance, a student health insurance plan is available through the University.
For the 2008-2009 academic year, this insurance
plan will be administered by Associated
Insurance Plans (AIP) with Delos as the carrier.
The cost for coverage from 8/16/08 to 8/15/09 is
$516. This insurance plan is available to all
students carrying three or more hours with
optional coverage for spouse and dependants.
The student will have $50,000 coverage per cause
for sickness or accident after a $100 deductible
is met. Coverage up to $5,000 is paid at 100%.
From $5,001 to $50,000 coverage is paid at 80%
with the student being responsible for 20%.
There is an optional supplemental which
parents/students may purchased for an additional
$180. This will increase coverage to $150,000
(per accident or sickness cause) paid at 80%
after $100 deductible and after the policy has
paid 100% from$101 to $5,000.
This insurance plan offers an annual wellness
exam benefit ($250 coverage) for a $20 co-pay.
This could include a pap smear, routine lab,
etc. Additional benefits of membership include
the Co-Health Group Collegiate Plan which
provides substantial discounts for vision,
dental and prescription pharmacy at the time of
service.
The student is required to complete and submit a
claim form for each injury or illness to AIP in
a timely manner. Until the claim form is
received, the insurance company is unable to
initiate payment. No other paperwork is
required. The Health and Wellness Office will be
glad to assist the student with this process.
For graduating students, short term medical
insurance is available for three months, six
months and up to one year.
Additional information regarding this insurance
plan will be provided during Mountaineer Days
and Welcome Week. You may also call

*Although it is highly recommended for all Schreiner students, the
mandatory Accident and Sickness insurance requirement for health
insurance coverage does not apply to commuters.
Health Insurance insures students can access
health care off campus, consult a specialist,
and have coverage for emergency and
hospitalization. All students are encouraged to
carry a copy of their insurance card to avoid
delay in healthcare in an emergency and to
provide updated information by visiting the
Health and Wellness web page listed above at any
time when it changes. |
